  • Any activity you can do will benefit your overall health. Start with ten-minutes, and build from there!

  • Changing your lifestyle doesn't mean you have to give up your favorite foods forever! You can still enjoy them in moderation. Think about reducing the portion sizes, and having these foods less often.

  • It is not easy to change behaviors. New habits take time to form. Don't get frustrated if it doesn't happen overnight!

  • Try new vegetables at the grocery store. You may surprise yourself and find a new favorite!

  • Remember all the good things in life; friends, family, holidays. Continue to celebrate the joy in life and remember what is important.

  • Managing your blood pressure may take several different medications. It doesn't mean that you've failed, or that your heart disease is worse, it is what is needed to reduce your blood pressure to keep you healthy!

  • There is strength in knowing your numbers. Knowing your blood pressure and your cholesterol numbers, and knowing what you can do to reduce these numbers gives you a lot of control!

  • Your blood pressure is not the same as anyone else's. Don't compare yourself with others, and don't share medications.

  • No time for a workout? See if anyone in your office wants to do lunch hour walks!

  • Try gradually reducing the salt you use in the food you cook at home. As you become accustomed to the taste, take it out completely! Experiment with spices to enhance flavor!

  • Challenge yourself: how many different ways can you incorporate fruits and vegetables into your daily routine? Carrot sticks? A fruit salad? A vegetable puree? Grilled vegetables? You get the idea!

  • Think you need to run a marathon? Think again. Walking at a moderate pace for thirty minutes a day is good for your heart.

  • Work on the third floor? Take the stairs. Going shopping? Park at the end of the parking lot. These are simple ways to incorporate exercise into your day.

  • Social get-togethers don't need to be food-centered. A golf game, a walk, a movie, or board games are all options.

  • Get the whole family on board! Making positive life changes can have an impact on everyone.
